I love this awesome app (available on Apple, Android and desktop) which basically turns your photos into postcards, prints and posts them, all for around $1.50 a card! Great for keeping the family up to date.
Passports are a travellers most prized possession and passport holders make great budget gift ideas! Opt to go the personality route with something that reflect them or go all high tech with and RFID blocking case that doubles up as a wallet.
Personally I dont use them but many of my travel buddies swear by their eye mask and ear plug kits for long haul journeys and hostel life. There’s plenty of eye masks to choose from out there so you can get one that really nails the receivers personality.
